What is Feng Shui?

In the beginning, Feng Shui was not for the living, as it was mainly for finding where to bury your loved ones. Feng Shui was used for burial sites and graves in China. Feng Shui masters worked for the Emperor and Imperial family only, not everyday people.

Then evolution began and gradually the classical texts starting in the Tang dynasty (618-907) began to help living spaces. As time went on, Feng Shui masters would not reveal their trade secrets. They only passed their knowledge on their deathbeds to their disciples who were sworn to uphold their masters school of Feng Shui.

Feng Shui means “wind and water”. In its literal sense this refers to the topography of the earth, the mountains, valleys, and waterways whose shape and size, direction and levels are created by the nonstop interaction of these two powerful forces of nature.

Here are some pictures showing examples of balance outside and inside the home.

There is powerful energy flowing around us, within us, and in every living thing. This energy, also called qi (sounds like chi), is an invisible force energy that cannot be seen or heard, but its influence is surely felt around us everywhere. Qi can be positive or negative.  The main objective of Classical Feng Shui is how to harness the qi in our environment and use it.

If you feel your surroundings at home or work are not in balance or flowing in a positive direction, then its time for you to examine your outside environment.  The energy flows from the outside and into your home. You might have heard people say “Location, Location, Location”. Well they’re right as good qi always begins with the right piece of land and how the qi flows there. Good energy is either there or missing.

Feng Shui, is a metaphysical science or practice used to harness qi from the environment   to support human endeavors. If you are not familiar with Feng Shui please do not confuse the science with some new age or religious practice. It is not. There are some Feng Shui consultants as well as books that do mislead the public with these new age beliefs, but this is not the Classic Feng Shui that was developed thousands of years ago in China. In Feng Shui and Chinese Metaphysics the presence of opposites is necessary for balance, as too much of one thing is not good nor is too little. The Chinese call this yin and yang. Yin and yang are opposites that complement and depend on each other, such as night/day, cold/hot, rain/sunshine, female/male and on and on the list goes.

The best way for me to describe Feng Shui is to ask you to think of our world in microscopic particles of energy that are in constant movement. The energy vibrates at different levels, like the dew of morning fog is one form of water which is moving energy as is the raging ocean is  another. The qi surrounding you is affecting your relationships, health, sleep, studying and production. These energies create positive or negative areas within your home that affect your well being. When your energy within and outside of your home is positive it enables you to live in good health for your mind and body and helps give you supporting  energy to succeed in all areas of life.

This energy is mapped in a blueprint that is individual to each building based on its sitting and facing direction, the year it was built, the shape of the building and the current year energy. By identifying the supportive and non supportive areas we can adjust the qi to create a balance or recommend an area that will give your better results. Once we have your home/office blueprint we can help you create a space that feels secure, comfortable, prosperous and productive. Adjusting qi can also help eliminate low energy, stress, sleep disorders and conflict. A full assessment includes evaluating this energy blueprint, eliminating negative influence and creating a personal space of relaxation. The ultimate goal is to create a positive, supportive environment that reflects happiness.

Those who are using Feng Shui believe it changes their  lives, improves their health, helps their careers, supports closer relationships, increases spirituality, attracts abundance and prosperity, and ultimately brings greater joy and happiness into their life.
